Does a French drain or a curtain drain need an outlet?

If I waterproof my basement or foundation do I need drainage?

  • Yes.  The pressure from water buildup can create new issues or bring back old ones over time.

I have a large area affected by water, is there a cheaper alternative to drain installation?

  • In these situations, we use a mixture of drain installation, grading and swales to reduce costs.

How long do drainage systems last?

  • Drainage systems can last decades when serviced and maintained routinely.  (Jetting to clear blockages every few years, avoiding heavy traffic over drains.)

Is a sump pump the only way to keep water out of my basement?

  • There are a few cases where a limited budget or limited access creates the need for a sump pump.  However, priority #1 should be to prevent water from getting inside to begin with.

My water table is really high, will drains work?

  • Yes.  However we may need to install dry wells, additional drain piping,  and perform grading work as well.

Am I required to prevent my water problem from affecting neighbors?

  • Yes.  It is similar to if your tree damages your neighbors property- your water is your responsibility.
