Oxford, CT's Go-To Patio Contractors

We are Oxford's go-to contractors for quality patio installation. Our focus on a solid base and proper technique means your new patio will be beautiful for years to come.

The longevity of any patio lies hidden within its foundation. Common failures like sinking, shifting, cracking and uneven surfaces are almost always due to an improperly prepared sub-base, or foundation. Our installation process adheres to the highest industry standards, beginning with a deep excavation to remove unstable organic soil. We then install a geotextile fabric to prevent soil migration before building up a thick, multi-layered base of processed aggregate, which is compacted in lifts and precisely graded to ensure water flows away from your home. Or, we pour a concrete slab on the aggregate base to have a solid foundation for the patio- some materials and some sites require a concrete base. A robust foundation is what allows us to expertly lay your choice of interlocking pavers, natural stone, bricks or porcelain- creating a stunning, stable surface that will resist Connecticut's demanding freeze-thaw cycles for decades.

FAQ's

What are the best materials for a new patio?

The best material depends on your budget and desired aesthetic. Pavers are popular for their durability and wide variety of styles. Natural stone like bluestone or flagstone offers a unique, high-end look. Concrete is a versatile and often cost-effective option for modern designs.

What factors determine the cost of a new patio?

The main factors influencing cost are the total square footage, the type of material you choose, the complexity of the design (e.g., curves, inlays), site accessibility, and the need for additional features like steps or retaining walls.

How long does a paver patio last?

A professionally installed paver patio with a proper base can last for over 30-50 years. The key is the quality of the foundation beneath the pavers, which prevents sinking and shifting.

Does my old concrete patio need to be removed first?

Generally, yes. For a long-lasting paver patio, the old concrete surface must be removed to allow for the installation of a proper, compacted gravel base. Laying pavers directly over concrete is not recommended as it can lead to cracking and shifting.

Do I need a permit to build a patio in Connecticut?

For most simple, on-grade patios, a permit is not required. However, if the project includes retaining walls over a certain height (typically 3-4 feet), a roof structure, or significant changes to property grading, a permit may be necessary. It's always best to check with your local town's regulations.
